When I was a teacher at Collegewood Elementary in the WVUSD, I wanted to inspire future generations to better our community and society. In turn, I was inspired by our very own Andrew Rodriguez, former Walnut Mayor/City Councilmember. He was a kindergarten student of mine. When he knocked on my door eight years ago and told me he was running for Walnut City Council, I was onboard to help him achieve his goals. That inspiring moment is why I ran in 2020. The amazing things we’ve achieved and have yet to achieve is why I want to run for four more years. 

I loved being a teacher! Education has always been a passion of mine, and serving Walnut as a teacher for over 30 years was an honor. Now, serving Walnut as your Mayor and Councilmember for the past four years is an even greater honor, and I want to continue bringing the best out of this amazing city.

One of my favorite activities as an elected official is to go into elementary schools in Walnut to share how local government works and to inspire kids to use their voice to make a difference. I am proud to have organized the School District Liaison Committee that brings together all 3 school districts in our city multiple times a year to discuss updates, resources, and increased communication. This is why we are better together

One of the things I love about Walnut is our green, open spaces and trails. It’s a quiet, picturesque town that feels insulated from the bustling of the surrounding Los Angeles County, and it’s why it captured my heart. When Mike and I moved here over 20 years ago, I was met by a city of people that took great pride and joy in the schools and small community that they had built together. They welcomed me as one of their own and in turn, I looked to give them my all as a teacher, baseball coach, Parks and Rec Commissioner, Councilmember, and Mayor. 

I plan to maintain the unique characteristics that made me call Walnut my home. We have achieved a lot so far. Walnut residents are enjoying new pickleball courts, the new splash pad at Diversity Plaza, and our annual Taste of Walnut that promotes our small businesses. We have received over $300,000 from state and federal funding grants that will help upgrade our parks and Teen Center. We’ve increased our sheriff's patrol and promoted neighborhood watch programs to ensure safety in our town. I would love nothing more than to continue working on sharing the same joy Walnut has given me with the families, new or old, of our one of a kind community.

When I was elected four years ago, I was excited to get to work for the city of Walnut with ideas  I knew would benefit our residents.  I wanted to promote and help our small businesses, boost our community engagement, maintain our parks, and enhance public safety. A lot has been accomplished in my first 4 years, including limiting the percent of profits for food delivery services like UberEats and Doordash that negatively impacted our restaurants during Covid, passing an ordinance that led to “Taste of Walnut” which brings the community together to support our local small businesses, citywide park upgrades including new LED lighting for safety, new park equipment, and a splash pad in Creekside Park. We’ve added new pickleball courts and resurfaced our tennis courts to foster community building and wellness for our residents. We’ve added more sheriff’s patrols and boosted our neighborhood watch programs. We also received grants to help our small businesses, improve our Teen Center and Gym, and fund Snow Creek Park’s ADA Renovation. We managed to do all of this while maintaining a fiscally sound budget.

There are still a lot of incredible things I want to carry on for Walnut. If re-elected, I will continue providing Walnut activities that residents can participate in that maintains our small-town feel and therefore creating a support system for all. I will make public safety our top priority to keep Walnut as one of the safest cities in the San Gabriel Valley. I will find new and creative ways to build revenue to maintain our parks and trails, and to help boost our small businesses.
